FAO Anyone sitting exams with us over the coming weeks/months.

Dear Student,

The confirmed Summer 2020 timetable is now available on the Exams Office website. There have been some amendments and I ask that you check the timetable carefully.

As you were informed, we have made the decision to move exams to an online delivery via Moodle in order to allow ‘business-as-usual’ so far as possible and reduce the impact on students’ programmes of study. Full and detailed instructions will be issued on the Module Moodle page under the ‘Online Exams’ section, and a ‘sample assessment’ will be set up on the Moodle page no later than the 15 April to allow you to practice creating a document, and uploading it to Moodle. On the exam timetable, we have listed the potential ways in which you may need to upload your final file for submission, see below.

File Type Information

1

Type your answer into a document and upload the file to the exam submission link. You will have an additional 30 mins to upload the file after the exam is finished.

2

Combination of typing and handwriting (as required for calculations or diagrams). You will need to take a picture of your handwritten work and insert the picture into a document. You will have an additional 1 hour to upload the file after the exam is finished.

3

The exam will be deployed as a quiz in Moodle and answers input directly (e.g. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and similar questions).

TBC's - we will update these in due course

Points to note:

  • If, on the 15th April, you don’t see the Online Exams section on your module page in Moodle, and you are due to have an exam in that module, please contact us immediately via servicedesk.dbs.ie

  • It is best to search by module code e.g. B9DA101

  • We anticipate no more changes but we ask that you check the timetable regularly

  • All exams will take place as per the scheduled timetable. The timezone is GMT+1

  • The Exam Paper will be available 10 minutes before the scheduled start time

  • You will be granted additional administration time to upload your file. This will be determined by the type of file submission. See the exam timetable for more information.

  • NEP (Need Extra Provision) students requiring extra time - This will be taken into consideration when you submit your file

  • Download the Exams Answer Template and clearly mark the questions you have answered.

How to prepare for the exam:

Please make sure to:

  • Have a quiet environment where you can sit your exam

  • Have your credentials to access Moodle

  • Have a laptop

  • Have access to an internet connection

  • Practice Uploading a file to the Practice Area on your Moodle page

  • If you are deferred or repeating a module, check for the practice upload link at your earliest convenience. If this is not available, contact your Programme Coordinator.
