Health and Safety

With the return of more students and staff to campus, we are doing our utmost to ensure that people are as safe as possible at all times.

The Wearing of Masks

Please ensure that you wear your mask/visor at all times (unless at your desk).  We have had some concerns come in from students and lecturers in relation to some faculty not wearing masks.  Please be mindful of this at all times.

Moodle pages

Recordings of classes go to your respective Moodle pages by default. Please ensure you make all recordings visible as soon as possible. These are set to be hidden from students by default and require your attention to change that.

Please check the Moodle staff training page for more info and training videos.

EdTech Training

The EdTech training sessions are being extended for another week.  There are sessions available Monday-Thursday.  Please check the DBS events calendar for times.

Zoom

When you are logged into Zoom in the classroom or lab, please ensure to log out from Zoom once you finish your class to ensure the next lecturer using the computer isn’t accessing your Zoom account by accident. You can log out on the Zoom app on the desktop or the browser.

Zoom in labs

We are currently working through some zoom sound issues within Citrix. Apologies for the inconvenience. We are working hard to resolve this with Enterprise solutions.

Please use the Zoom application outside of Citrix. When you see the Citrix login page in full screen select Alt + F4 to give you the desktop to launch Zoom.

If you have logged into Citrix and cannot get back to the desktop please select Shift + F2 to get to the desktop and launch zoom.

Alternatively if you have your own surface please feel free to use this in classrooms and labs. You can come along to IT on the 2nd or 5th floor and we can go down with you to help set you up.

Broadcasting classes

All classes are to be broadcast live, regardless of whether students are in the classroom or not.

Library

The Library has opened the Reading Room. Students must use the booking system located here to choose their seat and session. There are three sessions per day and 66 seats available during each session. Students must check-in at the Library desk to confirm their booking and wear a face covering at all times.

The Library PCs and group study rooms remain closed. We hope to open these services after the government policy announcement expected on 22 Oct.

Students are again welcome to browse the Library shelves without appointment and use the self-checkout stations to borrow print books.

Change to Timesheet Process

Finance_and_accounting.jpg

This is to alert full time salaried faculty, of a new, more efficient process for claiming (on a monthly basis) hours that are in excess of your contract.  What would have happened previously is that an excel timesheet was circulated each month from academicopstimesheets@dbs.ie, which was specific to that month and that was emailed back to that address for processing that month.

We will no longer be using those timesheets and instead you will need to complete this google form: here  This form is also located on the staff intranet: here

Non-timetabled claims form are to still be used for claiming items such as supervision, feedback interviews or attendance at open events.  We will be looking to use this google form for all claims going forward but for now it is only for claiming hours that are in excess of your contract.

Reminder how to add your Celcat timetable (teaching timetable) into your Google Calendar.

Firstly: Go to http://ical.dbs.ie/ and enter your DBS email address e.g. mine is eddie.ormonde@dbs.ie, you will then receive an email with your individual Calendar URL, required for instructions in step 2.

Secondly: Follow these instructions to add your timetable to your DBS calendar.

https://celcat.wiki/en/guides/configuration_guides/version_8.1/celcat_icalendar_feed_configuration_guide/google_calendar?s[]=icalendar&s[]=google

You will now see your timetable in your calendar, should you have a change/addition to your timetable this will automatically update in your calendar but please be aware it does take a few hours to update.

Just so you know!

Meeting Rooms

We currently have no rooms available for meeting with staff or students for the next few months.

5th Floor renovation works

Works are progressing and we expect to start using the new classrooms from the 4th October. The door on the hallway will be moved back towards the lift before those classrooms are in operation, keeping the staff toilets inaccessible to students.
