<title>Orientation Week Success</title>
<link>https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/1ut1bgjg07l?lang=en?rss=true</link>
<description>We are delighted to welcome our new and returning students back to DBS over the last two weeks. With over ten events sold out, our students have enjoyed Dublin City Scavenger Hunts, trips around Howth, walks in Ticknock Forest, Swims in Killiney, Paint &amp; Wine Nights, BYOB Bowling nights and also welcomed the return of the legendary 'Mystery Tour' for Fresher's Week!

Many students are relieved and energised to be returning to the city, to see their friends and most of all to be a student again and you can certainly feel a sense of positivity on Campus. Over the next couple of weeks we will have our Student Awareness Week, Healthy Campus Week and Learner Resource Week too so our students will have lots to look forward to.

<title>DEI Focus Groups</title>
<link>https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/weeifcbrupo?lang=en?rss=true</link>
<description>Over recent months, we have been reaching out to you, gathering feedback, learning, and listening to your stories and suggestions around DEI issues at DBS. Most recently we conducted a survey of staff to identify insights into your experiences of diversity, equity, and inclusion across the College. As part of our ongoing efforts to listen to and learn from our community, we will shortly invite you for an opportunity to join us at some upcoming DEI Focus Groups.

In these sessions, we will explore how you and others see DEI, how DBS has defined DEI, results of the recent DBS survey and actionable ideas for moving forward in the DEI space. Each of the focus group sessions will take 45 minutes and be held virtually over the next few weeks. We seek your feedback along with your insights as to how we together can address DEI for DBS. It's important for us to hear all points of view and a diverse range of lived experiences, so please join us, even if you don’t feel well versed in the DEI landscape.

<description>been set up to assist higher education institutions in ensuring students with disabilities have the necessary assistance and equipment to enable them access, fully participate in and successfully complete their chosen course of study. This is the first of its kind, and we are proud and delighted to welcome our first student who will be able to avail of this funding. Eoghan Clonan joins us to study a Higher Certificate in Arts, and can now have the full supports that he requires to engage with his college experience. We are also happy to have his disability dog, Leahy, joining us in the college to assist him. We hope to continue in our progression as a college, in order to make DBS an inclusive environment for everyone.

<title>Making A Difference In Tanzania</title>
<link>https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/op7ihz2jvzg?lang=en?rss=true</link>
<description>Summer 2019 marked the trip of a lifetime for some of our DBS students, SU team, and faculty as they made the incredible journey to Tanzania, spending two weeks living, working, and immersing themselves in Tanzanian culture. Following on from that trip, DBS has recently received a lovely message and progress photos from our friends in Tanzania, Africa. Our donation of computers and tech equipment are set up in Amani College of Management and Technology and are helping the lives and enhancing the learning of the students in their communities.
A great success story of how we are fulfilling our objective of 'Making a Difference' at DBS.

<title>Antigen Testing for Covid-19. </title>
<link>https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/1fe9qqpilzu?lang=en?rss=true</link>
<description>Antigen testing is a suitable ‘first line of defense’ test against COVID-19, particularly in individuals who have COVID symptoms, because it is a relatively simple procedure, and is quicker than other approaches – like PCR testing; it typically takes around 15 minutes for a result. DBS has been selected along with other third level institutions to participate in Antigen Testing for Covid-19.
The purpose of the project is to help the HSE find out if it is feasible to carry out Antigen Testing in third-level and early learning and childcare settings, and if it would be possible to introduce it across the whole country if that was required. We will be seeking volunteers from among our staff, who will be willing to carry out self testing over a four week period, and provide input back to the HSE via their webpage with your results. Please complete this form [ https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/ye7hch02tvw/external ] [ https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/ye7hch02tvw/external ] to express your interest.

<title>Research </title>
<link>https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/c1d3pwv4o6k?lang=en?rss=true</link>
<description>There has been some interesting development across the college in the area of research. A new Practice Research Coordinator has been appointed to help track and develop research across the college. Many of you will have already had contact with Dr. Andrew Browne in that role, but he encourages you to reach out to him with any research, ideas around research or general comments at andrew.browne@dbs.ie [ andrew.browne@dbs.ie ]. Hopefully, you have had a chance to keep up with the Newsletters he has been producing. If not, you can always access them here [ https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/1ktic799aoy/external ]. We have also had the appointment of a brand new Research Librarian, Teirnan O'Sullivan (tiernan.osullivan@dbs.ie [ tiernan.osullivan@dbs.ie ]), who will be expertly filling the shoes of Robert Alfis. Tiernan is working with colleagues across the college and in the library to help develop the resources that our researchers will need to continue excelling at their endeavours.

This year, there will be two exciting opportunities to engage with research at DBS. During the week of November 29th we will have a Research Week hosted through the Student Experience Team, this will be an excellent opportunity for staff and students to engage in activities designed to highlight the research potential of our college. There will be a focus there between staff and student research along with other interesting additions. It will be a chance to highlight the research going on with our students. Check out the dates here [ https://dublinbusinessschool.newsweaver.com/a572m76dtt/fn2f78ws19p/external ].

The Research Committee will be hosting its first major conference this Spring entitled the Annual Conference on Applied Research. This will be replacing the annual Research Day with a much more focused event. The Conference will take place on a date to be confirmed toward the end of March 2022, and will be accepting submissions for DBS, national and international researchers on topics pertaining to applied research.

Watch out for the next Research Newsletter in November and more from the Research Librarian in the coming weeks and months.

<description>Black History Month, also known as African History Month aims to instill in Irish society &amp; carry on celebratory legacy intercultural diversity education. Black History Month Ireland(BHMI), also known as African History Month (AHMI) is a community voluntary intercultural organisation bringing greater awareness and instill in Irish communities and carry on celebratory legacy of diversity education, cultural tolerance and community inclusion begun in America in 1915 and subsequently observed by the United Kingdom in 1987 and Canada in 1995.
BHMI/AHMI is celebrated annually in October to recognise honour, educate about and celebrate the achievements and international contributions of generations of members of the African diaspora and to mark important events in its history in arts events, open lectures, trade shows, exhibitions, workshops, bazaars, a film festival, visual arts, night of culture, etc. We'll be in contact soon with more information on how we're celebrating BHM.
