Welcome

Welcome to the new academic year at Dublin Business School. While the country has made very good progress in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, it is still influencing how we deliver our teaching and provide service to our students and others in the DBS community. This document sets out some information and guidance that describes the expected experience during the 2021/22 academic year.

Health and Safety

Safety of staff and students is our top priority. We are following all government guidelines and will keep up to date with any developments. We promote the uptake of vaccinations, but will not request details from staff or students to confirm they are vaccinated. We have put in place many measures to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and we ask everyone to take personal responsibility to minimise its spread. There are sanitising stations across all campus buildings; we require facemasks to be worn in class and all public spaces; common areas will have seated-only areas and numbers will be capped. People must not congregate in large groups within a DBS building or outside. When in corridors or common areas it is important to follow directional signs and to keep moving as quickly as possible to your destination.

Term Time

Term starts on week commencing the 20th September, with the exception of first year full time students and students on Springboard funded programmes, who start on week commencing 27th September.

Registration

Our Admissions teams are contacting all new incoming students who are joining us in September with information on start dates, induction dates and more. Contact admissions@dbs.ie  if you have any queries.

Tuition Delivery

On Campus classes

In line with government guidelines, we’ll be reopening our campus to more on site teaching. Our in class capacity will range from 60 - 100% of full occupancy, depending on the specific room. The majority of our classes will continue to be broadcast for those who are unable to attend in person. If there is an exception to this, you will be notified directly. Where your group size is too large for a given classroom and social distancing is required, you will be notified via email at your DBS email address over the coming weeks. In these circumstances, you may end up attending on a rotating basis, e.g. one week in, one week out (and view online).

Recordings

With minor exceptions, classes will continue to be recorded and made available via Moodle for playback.

Timetables

Timetables are available via your DBS Outlook account to all registered students, in the calendar. This will give you information on whether the class is on campus or online. Supplementary information, if required, will be emailed to you over the coming weeks.

Extracurricular Activities

Students can expect to welcome back popular events, activities, student meet-ups, and of course our legendary surf trips to Bundoran (not to be missed). We hope to see our 35 societies become more active with the return of events and society meet-ups too. We are also delighted to see the return of our sports clubs which will resume group training and competition for the college throughout the academic year. You can read more about our First 100 Days at DBS by clicking here.

Exams

Exams will remain online for the academic year, either via Moodle or the online proctoring (invigilation) platform. You will receive communications regarding the specific processes for your exams by Reading Week.

Library

The Library will be open for lending and the Reading Room will be open for study. However, numbers will be restricted; a booking system will be in operation for the Reading Room and access to the stacks will be managed through a check-in and one-way flow. Full details will be published on the Library website.

Printing

There are printers available throughout DBS college at a cost of 7c per black and white page or 25c per colour page, credit can be added at the library or through webprint.dbs.ie, more details are available on the Student Portal on the My Induction section. DBS would encourage all students to be eco-friendly and avoid printing, OneNote is recommended as a digital note taking app and is available free of charge on mydbs
