What can I do with a business degree?
Careers for business graduates

If you are considering a degree in a business-related area, you will find a range of careers that are directly related to the qualification.

While many of these careers are open to graduates in any subject, some employers will have a preference for graduates with a business background, and for others it may be a definite requirement. Your degree will provide useful background knowledge, evidence of some of useful skills, and possibly some exemptions from papers in professional examinations.

Many business courses cover a range of subjects, but there are others, such as marketing, which have a specific vocational emphasis and this will also influence your choice of job.

Careers for business graduates

Some of the areas employing business graduates are:

  • accountancy
  • advertising
  • banking, investment and financial services
  • general management
  • HR/personnel
  • management consultancy
  • public relations

Employability skills gained from a business degree

It’s been estimated that 40 per cent of graduate vacancies do not ask for specific degree subjects. And your degree will have helped you develop a range of transferable skills that you can bring to any job. These include:

  • analytical ability
  • communication and presentation skills
  • goal setting
  • leadership skills
  • numeracy
  • problem solving
  • team work
  • time management.
