The Mature Student - Common Concerns
DBS makes returning to study easy with our flexible programmes and support services

Returning to college can be daunting, so we have listed a few of the most common concerns we hear from applicants, to assure you that DBS has considered all areas to ensure that we have provided the necessary support to make the return to education as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Will I cope with the study?

Feelings of worry and a lack of confidence are not uncommon. Many applicants worry that they will struggle with coursework or appear weak in comparison to other students. In reality, mature students tend to settle into their courses well and are very successful in their studies.

If it has been some time since you have written an assignment or produced a bibliography, our lecturers are a great source of support, in addition to free academic support classes offered in the evenings by our library, who will take students through the main points of researching, referencing and essay writing.

Can I park at the college?

Discount parking is provided for students in a range of car parks in the vicinity of the college, and disability parking is available in nearby street parking. Bicycle parking is also provided at Drury Street car park - please contact the admissions office for further information.

I have been given a reading list - do I have to purchase all the books?

DBS course fees include notes and access to our online student learning system Moodle, so we do not request that students purchase books for their studies. Core texts for each programme are available in multiple in our library and many are additionally in e-book form. Students may wish to purchase books they feel are very useful however it is not a requirement.

If you have any queries about returning to study with DBS, please contact our admissions office by email on admissions@dbs.ie or by phoning 01-4177500 and we would be delighted to discuss your options with you going forward.
