DBS School Visits are now being organised

In DBS, we have been conducting school visits for approximately 20 years and the time we spend with students in classrooms has proven an invaluable source of information in helping the student in the decision making process.

In line with Government Guidelines we are reaching out to enquire about arranging a school visit for this current academic year either physically or virtually. DBS offers a wide range of full-time , Honours Degree (Level 8), Ordinary Degree (Level 7) and Higher Certificate (Level 6) undergraduate courses in the areas of Business, Psychology, Media, Computing and Law.

The Student Life Programme is set out by the Student Experience Team. They are committed to making sure the students' college experience is engaging and memorable, while also ensuring that everyone is safe at all times. This year they will be running some modified experiences, which support social distancing and online networking, which adhere to the advice received from the Irish Government. Although these activities will be adapted, the fun and the engagement will be something our team will be working hard to maximise each time.
All of the events and activities within our Student Life Programme will be subject to the satisfaction of our COVID risk assessments and will require students to comply with our own protocols to ensure everyone's safety.

If you would like to arrange a visit or a virtual talk in line with Government Guidelines, please let us know by contacting our School Liaison Officer on  Charlotte.Hickey@dbs.ie or 087 226 6732.

We look forward to meeting you all very soon!

DBS - FAQ's
We have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions to help make your students' decision easier.

With over 1,000 courses on the CAO, it can be a laborious task helping students decide what college and courses they want to apply for. We at DBS have put together some interesting information which will hopefully help you answer student's questions and better equip them with the knowledge they will need to make an informed decision. In the Admissions Office, we speak to people just like you and your students every single day. Your questions are important to us as they help us to better understand your concerns. We have put together some information below in repsonse to the most common questions we receive - we hope this helps!

1. How are DBS degrees recognised?

Degree awards in DBS come from Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI). QQI's role in Ireland is to ensure the standard and quality of degrees that are awarded outside the University Sector - essentially they look after Quality Assurance. This means that upon graduation, your award will be recognised as a full level 6, 7 or 8 award.

2. Why are the points much lower than the other colleges?

The points system in Ireland is based on demand v supply - the points are determined by the number of applications to each course and the number of places available.  In a public college, as the government currently make a contribution towards the fees for each student enrolled, there are a limited number of places available. In DBS, because all of our students pay their own fees, there are no such limits. Similarly, as we are a private college we do not have as much demand for the places.

It is important to know that the points are not lower because the course is any easier, any less recognised or because you pay fees - it is purely based on demand and supply!

3. How do I go about applying for the HCI programmes in DBS?

In order to apply for the programmes on the HCI Scheme - you must apply through CAO. Students will only have to pay the €1,500 registration fee if they are successfully offered a place in August 2021.

4. Do I still pay fees for all other courses even though I apply through the CAO?

Yes, DBS is on the CAO because our degrees are QQI awarded but students must still pay fees. It is important to know though that fees include all registration, student contribution, tuition and examination fees, are payable in installments and qualify for tax relief. You can find fee information on the DBS website or by contacting the contacting the Admissions Office on 01-4177500 or by email admissions@dbs.ie

5. What can students expect this year at DBS?

We will have a number of key college events to look forward to within our Student Meet-Up Series. Make sure you get involved and take part in all of the action with our SU team.

Each week throughout the academic term the Student Experience Team will arrange exciting, fun and safe events for students to participate in. These experiences will give each of our students the opportunity to meet new people and see all of the best sights across Dublin.

Our Student Meet-Up Series will consist of the following events:

  • Killiney Hill & Swim at Vico Baths

  • Howth Hillwalk & Harbour Tour

  • Surf Dock & Stand-Up Paddle Board

  • Guinness Storehouse

  • Jameson Whiskey Tour

  • Bray to Greystone Hike

  • Phoenix Park Welfare Walk

  • Malahide Castle & North Coastal Walk

It is important to note that All of the events and activities within our Student Life Programme will be subject to the satisfaction of our COVID risk assessments and will require students to comply with our own protocols to ensure everyone's safety. Click Here to read more.

There is no doubt that as your students get closer to making their decision they will have more questions and in the Admissions Office, we are here to help.
