Other benefits DBS students can look forward to are: - Courses and Lecturers - Courses are developed in collaboration with industry and professional bodies and taught by leaders in their specialist fields so students get the skills employers need. Our lectures are very student focused and with smaller class numbers each student can expect a hands on approach from DBS lecturers.
- Student Experience - Dedicated Student Services and Career Services teams help enhance your student experience.
- Student Employability - Practical “sector based” assignments that allow students to develop their leadership, planning and communication skills.
- Tax exemptions are also offered on all undergraduate programmes of two years duration or more. For Full Time courses tax relief is currently granted on fees exceeding €2,750 and up to €7,000.
Where you'll go? - BA (Hons) Arts - Graduates are currently working in the film, radio and theatre industries. Further pathways include teaching, lecturing, advertising, business, the health services, the government and a range of other areas.
- BA (Hons) Psychology - Graduates have progressed into areas such as social work and teaching. A postgraduate qualification is normally required if graduates are to find work as a professional psychologist.
- BA (Hons) in Business - Business graduates have progressed into careers in marketing, sales, operations, information technology, finance and general management.
- Bachelor of Laws (Hons) - For those wishing to train as a solicitor or barrister. Graduates also have also progressed to careers in social sciences, politics, the media and public services.

Course Focus: BSc (Hons) Computing
|
The BSc (Hons) in Computing has been prepared in line with current developments within the ICT sector and is informed by consultation with employers. The programme incorporates a mandatory 10 month paid work placement, which is included to ensure graduates of the programme will have the required practical application of the programme content to ensure a smooth transition into the workplace and further progression within the workplace.
The BSc (Hons) Computing is offered in four different streams: - Cloud Computing
- Data Analytics and Big Data
- Software Development
- Web and Cloud Technologies
The BSc (Hons) in Computing responds to a known and often articulated skills shortage that exists in the ICT sector. The Irish Government and Industry recognise that there is an urgent requirement to ensure an adequate supply of ICT talent and skills from both the domestic and international markets to meet needs.
Aims & Objectives of the course: On completion of this programme, students should be able to:
• Work effectively in ICT environments within organisations
• Understand the theoretical and practical applications in the major areas of Computing
• Enable the student to contextualise his/her studies by affording the opportunity of a work placement in an ICT role
• Demonstrate presentation and reporting skills in addition to personal and career development, facilitating preparation for work and postgraduate study
• Demonstrate experience in the research, formulation, implementation and evaluation of a problem and its solution
• Display competence in dealing knowledgeably with general computing issues and develop effective solutions
• Demonstrate a high level of competence in using a wide range of IT hardware and software tools to an industry level standard
• Display and use transferable, real world skills in a variety of business contexts
• Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of computer applications as solutions to business problems
• Proceed to postgraduate study with specialist skills based on their programme of study

Open Evening - Tuesday 10 March 2015
10 March 5.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m.
The next DBS Open Evening will take place on 10 March 2015 from 5.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m. in our Aungier Street campus building. Come along and meet lecturers and students - you can take a tour of the different campus buildings and have a chat about college life in DBS.
Lecturers from all areas will also be on hand to talk to students about their courses choices, what is involved and what you can expect from coming to college at DBS.
The Open Event will be a great way to help you to learn how to make the most of your student experience at DBS!

Noticeboard - Keep an eye out on the noticeboard outside student services in Castle House for news and updates.
Online - Moodle and facebook will keep you up to date on all sport and societies upcoming events.
Plenty of options to choose from. there are over 40 Sports & Societies in DBS.
