New Programme - MSc in Information & Library Management
For those wishing to pursue a career in Information & Library Management on a professional level.


The MSc in Information and Library Management provides learners with the applied professional knowledge and competencies required of a manager within the information and library sector. The programme also enables existing library personnel to obtain a professional library qualification for promotional purposes.


The programme is taught by a combination of experienced academic staff and senior industry practitioners. Built into the programme is an industry relevant work placement of three weeks or equivalent duration.


Work experience placements are coordinated by an Employer Liaison Officer from the DBS Careers Department. Learners with relevant experience are exempt from this element of the programme but are facilitated should they wish to partake.  

Placements secured in the previous articulation of the programme include the libraries of the Irish Film Institute, National College of Ireland, Arthur Cox Solicitors, Dublin Dental Hospital, NUI Maynooth, RTE and the Irish Hospice Foundation.



The MSc in Information & Library Management is offered;
Full -Time  - 1 Year
Part -Time  - 2 Years (two evenings per week)

New Programme - Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Psychology
The MSc in Applied Psychology will provide learners with an insight into the field of applied psychology, thus developing the competencies and skills required to relate theory to practical applications. The learner will explore various theories of psychology that will enable them to understand human behaviour from individual, social and biological perspectives. 

The programme is comprised of both core modules and elective modules. Elective modules form two distinct career pathways in the areas of organisational psychology and health psychology.
Learners will analyse and evaluate the support for competing theories, as well as the studies and projects that apply these psychological concepts, theories and processes.  From this and their exposure to advanced research methods and professional skills, learners will understand the theoretical, methodological and ethical considerations in designing and assessing interventions, evidencing these skills in an applied research project.

Central to this programme are the areas of analysis, intervention, application, evaluation and research. There is a strong focus on ethics, professional skills and personal development.
 
Upon completion of the programme learners will be able to competently investigate contemporary local and global issues using an applied psychological perspective and design solutions to match. 

Graduates will be able to think critically, appraise and problem solve. The programme encourages initiative and originality in research and learners will make a significant contribution to their knowledge of psychology and will be competent to carry out both basic and applied psychological research.

Depending on the career pathway, graduates will be equipped with an understanding of individual, organisational, social and cultural influences on behaviour in organisational or health settings. Evidence-based skills are developed in specific methodological, statistical, measurement and other empirical techniques required by academia, private and public industry.

LinkedIn to Invest In New International Headquarters in Dublin
LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network on the internet, has announced plans to invest in its international headquarters in Dublin after acquiring a 17,507sq m site at Wilton Place. The new site has capacity to see LinkedIn’s current Irish workforce grow from 600 to 1,200 people in the future. Construction work on the new International headquarters will begin in May 2015 with building works expected to be completed at the beginning of 2017.

Since its arrival in Dublin in March 2010, LinkedIn has grown substantially from an initial 3 people, to more than 600 employees today. LinkedIn’s international headquarters in Dublin is now one of the leading employers in the Irish digital technology sector. The company bases a variety of different functions including sales and marketing at its offices in Wilton Place. 

Sharon McCooey, Senior Director, LinkedIn Ireland, added: “With 1.2 million members, Ireland is now one of LinkedIn’s top markets when it comes to member penetration. For that reason we are extremely pleased to be announcing a further investment in Ireland and an expansion of our operational presence here.
