Mocks done, bring on the Leaving Cert!

With the mock exams out of the way, you are likely to be left feeling relieved that it's over and that you made it through in one piece!

If you have found that you weren't in a position to answer some of the questions to the best of your ability, and let's face it, this is all anyone can ask of you, fear not, you still have plenty of time to get back on track! How can you refocus? If you haven't done it already, now is the time to create your study plans and timetables.

Benefits of using study plans:

  • They are personal to you which means that you can be confident that you can do what has been allocated - nobody else is telling you what to do and when to do it.
  • They help you to get a much better idea of how much you have left to do and more importantly, how much you have already done.
  • They help you ensure that you get everything done before the exams so that you can be confident going in.
  • They can motivate you to keep going as you tick things off the lists you can see clearly how much you have already done.
  • They allow you to relax and stay calm when you are having a break when everyone else seems to be studying 24 hours a day - as long as you are getting everything done that's on the list then it doesnt matter what everyone else is doing.

To create your study plan just follow the simple steps below:

1. Make a list of the important topics / chapters that you have not already covered so far

2. Make a list of the times you will have free.
Of course you need to remember that you will have homework to complete as well so dont try to do too much. But do remember to include holidays, half days and weekends.

3. When you know which days and times you will use for studying then break each day down into blocks of no more than 2 hours.

4. Allocate a block of 2 hours per topic / chapter

5. Colour code the study plan and timetable. This will help you easily pick out what subjects to study on what days.

6. Print and stick a copy up at your desk or in your journal - somewhere you know you can easily find it.

7. Cross things off as you complete them as this will help to motivate you to keep going.

Remember - try to keep the plan varied so that you are not doing the same subject on the same day at the same time as this will help to prevent boredom, or at least keep it to a minimum!

Cloud4Gov spells out silver linings of cloud technology
According to an Irish Times article published last year, a cloud technology programme which has been announced could have far-reaching implications for how the public sector will store and share information in years to come. The Cloud4Gov programme will see IDA Ireland and the EMC Corporation construct a cloud centre with hubs in government networks and in EMC’s centre of excellence.

Implemented last year, the programme provides a secure, private space for Irish small and medium-sized enterprises to demonstrate data efficiency and cost-saving solutions. Although “cloud” is still a relatively new term, most people are familiar with the technology. It means that data is not stored on your personal computer, but rather on a remote server that can be accessed by any computer or mobile device. If you have ever shared a Google document or purchased a song from iTunes you will have used cloud technology.

Be part of something big!
Why not consider one of thse innovative Cloud Technology degree programmes in DBS?
