Discover our unique programme in the School of Business

DBS is Ireland largest Independent 3rd level institution offering a wide range of full-time undergraduate programmes, available through CAO and direct entry, across the Schools of Business, Arts and Law.

This week's newsletter we are placing our focus back on the School of Business to look at the BA (Hons) Business Studies (Work Placement). We review the course content and what career opportunities are available to graduates.

The BA (Hons) Business Studies (Work Placement) if the only 4 year programme offered by DBS. It is designed to give a clearly structured business education that provides a solid foundation for success in a business career and a strong grounding in fundamental business concepts, ideas, practices and methodologies. Students are also provided with a good understanding of general business theory and practice and critical knowledge and skills that will enable an effective contribution to the resolution of business problems. It will prepare students for the challenges posed by the dynamic nature of the modern business environment.

The programme content of the BA (Hons) Business Studies (Work Placement) differers from other Business programmes offered by DBS. Students attend classes as normal throughout first and second and forth year. It is in thrid year that things change! Students are provided with the opportunity to gain practical work experience over a forty-eight week period and can specialise in an area that reflects their course preferences and career ambitions. Students are paid by the company for the duration of their placement and are treated as full-time members of staff. The great thing about this course is that it provides students with that crutial work experience that employers look for from graduates.

Because of the broad spectrum of subjects studied, career opportunities for business studies students are numerous. The wide-ranging nature of knowledge and skills gained by business graduates makes them an attractive proposition for any prospective employer. A range of employment opportunities is possible in areas such as marketing, sales, operations, information technology, finance and general management. Graduates can also proceed to post-graduate programmes up to Masters level or to programmes leading to professional qualifications.

To apply for this course through CAO, enter the code DB520 in the Level 8 code list.

DBS Testimonials: The views that count
Learn about DBS from our Full-Time Undergraduate students at the conferring ceremony 2013

A common opinion that I came across during my education was:

“Learn the material off, get the piece of paper, but don’t worry you’ll never use any of it”.

In the case of Dublin Business School and the course outline they proved this concept false. I am surprised every day at how much I put into practice the knowledge I gained during my four years at DBS.

In my current position as OEM Operations and Programs Manager within the Irish subsidiary in Microsoft, I am grateful for the hours I spent in IT classes with Bernadette Higgins understanding how to use excel to my advantage.

I firmly believe Dublin Business School has many advantages over other academic facilities. The two I rank highest would be the lecturers and the small class sizes.

In my opinion the lecturers make DBS what is. They embody a fantastic mixture of real world knowledge and academic backgrounds. In my experience they not only take the time to get to know you but they genuinely want you to succeed, and are more than happy to meet out of class and support you in any way they can.

The smaller class sizes allow you to become more involved in the course and encourages interaction with fellow pupils and your lecturers, which I found invaluable. It also gives lecturers the opportunity to spend more one on one time with you if needed, which ensures that you don’t get lost in the crowd

After my wonderful experience and everything I gained during my four your years I would never hesitate to recommend the DBS experience to anyone.
