Information about course offered through CAO, college open days and the application process is provided through the CAO website.

But with so many colleges offereing differnt courses, it can be tough deciding what you want to do. Over the coming months, different undergraduate programmes offered by DBS will be highlighted in our CAO inspired newsletters, providing you with valuable information you need to make informed choices about your future. In this weeks newsletter we take a look at the BA (Hons) Marketing with Digital Media & Cloud Computing, the course content and what career opportunities are open to you after you finish this degree.

With the CAO application facility now open on the CAO website, its time to really start thinking about your future.

DBS offer a wide breath of full-time undergraduate programmes in subject areas including business, law, arts, media, social science, humanities and psychology. The Level 6Level 7 and Level 8 programmes provided through CAO prepare students for a successful career in their chosen field.

One of our newest, and most exciting Level 8 programmes is the BA (Hons) Marketing with Digital Media & Cloud ComputingThis  specialised and innovative 3 year programme has been created to meet the needs of learners who seek to develop their knowledge and appreciation of concepts and frameworks of marketing with digital media. Students will be exposed to the latest cutting edge ideas, techniques and marketing frameworks through the analysis of industry best practice. Not only will students gain practical experience in Marketing with Digital Media but the Cloud Computing element incorporated into the programme will assist learners in adapting their skills in a dynamic Digital Marketing environment

The programme content of the BA (Hons) Marketing with Digital Media & Cloud Computing has been designed to provide students with a strong foundation in business subjects in first year, while allowing them to progress into second and third year where, not only will they study core subjects like Cloud Computing for Business,
Digital Media Tools and Website Marketing Design & Development, but can specialize in different areas such as Marketing Research, Consumer Analysis and International Marketing.

Currently there is a huge demand for skilled works in the ICT sector, meaning that students will have very strong career opportunities after college. The majority of graduates from this programme will seek employment at graduate entry marketing positions within organisations either nationally or internationally, for organisations like Facebook or Microsoft. Or if you want to go on to study further, this programme is a valuable foundation postgraduate training.

To apply for this course through CAO, enter the code DB525 in one of the 10 spaces in the Level 8 code list.

DBS - FAQ's
We have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions to help make your decision easier.

As the online CAO application process opens this week, many of you will be making decisions on your options for your future. We at DBS have put together some interesting information which will hopefully better equip you with the knowledge that you will need to make an informed decision. In the Admissions Office, we speak to people just like you every single day. Your questions are important to us as they help us to better understand your concerns. We have put together some information below in repsonse to the most common questions we receive - we hope this helps.

1. Where do DBS degrees come from?

Degree awards in DBS come from HETAC (the Higher Education & Training Awards Council). HETAC's role in Ireland is to ensure the standard and quality of degrees that are awarded outside the University Sector - essentially they look after Quality Assurance. This means that upon graduation, your award will be recognised as a full level 6, 7 or 8 award.

2. Why are the points much lower than the other colleges?

The points system in Ireland is based on demand v supply - the points are determined by the number of applications to each course and the number of places available.  In a public college, as the government currently make a contribution towards the fees for each student enrolled, there are a limited number of places available. In DBS, because all of our students pay their own fees, there are no such limits. Similarly, as we are a private college we do not have as much demand for the places.

It is important to know that the points are not lower because the course is any easier, any less recognised or because you pay fees - it is purely based on demand and supply!

3. Do I still pay fees even though I apply through the CAO?

Yes, DBS is on the CAO because our degrees are HETAC awarded but students must still pay fees. It is important to know though that fees include all registration, student contribution, tuition and examination fees, are payable in installments and qualify for tax relief. You can find fee information on the DBS website or by contacting the contacting the Admissions Office on 01-4177500.

4. Can you apply directly?

Yes, some of our programmes are direct application. The easiest way to identify these is by checking if they have a CAO code attached to them (DB512 for example). If they don't then you apply directly. Mature students can also apply directly online on the DBS website, or by contacting the Admissions Office to request that we send you an application form.

5. Do I need Irish in my Leaving Certificate?

As DBS is not a public sector college, we do not require that you present Irish. Roughly, the minimum entry requirements are 2HC3's and 4OD3's to include English but some programmes will also require Maths.

There is no doubt that as you get closer to making your decision you will have more questions and in the Admissions Office, we are here to help you. You can come along to our Open Event on Tuesday 4th December 2012 from 5pm to 7pm or you can call in to the Admissions Office which is open Monday - Friday from 8.45am and 5.15pm.
