Where you'll go?

  • BA (Hons) Arts - Graduates are currently working in the film, radio and theatre industries. Further pathways include teaching, lecturing, advertising, business, the health services, the government and a range of other areas.
  • BA (Hons) Psychology - Graduates have progressed into areas such as social work and teaching. A postgraduate qualification is normally required if graduates are to find work as a professional psychologist.
  • BA (Hons) in Business - Business graduates have progressed into careers in marketing, sales, operations, information technology, finance and general management.
  • Bachelor of Laws (Hons) - For those wishing to train as a solicitor or barrister. Graduates also have also progressed to careers in social sciences, politics, the media and public services.

Focus on BA (Hons) Business with Psychology at DBS

The BA (Hons) in Business programme is designed to give a clearly structured business education that provides a solid foundation for success in a business career. The course provides a strong grounding in fundamental business concepts, ideas, practices and methodologies. A wide range of subject choices and specialist streams will enable students to effectively contribute to the resolution of business problems and will prepare students for the challenges posed by the dynamic nature of the modern business environment.

The Business with Psychology stream provides students with an appropriate base of relevant business and management knowledge, with a particular emphasis on the development of a firm, understanding of core issues addressed by organisational psychology.

Also refered to as I/O psychology, it is the scientific study of employees, workplaces, and organisations. It contributes to the organisation's success by improving work place practises and the performance, satisfaction and well-being of its people.

Graduates from this programme will have developed an understanding of the complexity of human nature therefore career opportunities for graduates are numerous. The wide-ranging nature of knowledge and skills gained by business psychology graduates makes them an attractive proposition for any prospective employer, working in Human Resources departments or specialising in research within companies to aid in marketing research . Graduating students wishing to pursue further qualifications can also proceed to post-graduate programmes up to Masters level or to programmes leading to professional qualifications.

Across the four years, students are given the opportunity to  study many key areas and aspects of business complemented by specific insights into the psychological aspects of work and organisational behaviour to an appropriate depth and are encouraged to use the benefits of the programme to further their business careers.

Students study subjects that provide them with a knowledge of the core business areas and disciplines. This knowledge is built on by developing an understanding of the key business disciplines. Students are also introduced to the historical development of psychology with particular emphasis placed on the role of society in understanding the psychology of the person in terms of perception, attitudes and culture. In their final year, students focus is on Strategy, International Business and Human Resource Management while further the psychology component is broken into the Psychology of Organisations, Personality and Individual Differences.

The Next DBS Open Evening will take place on Tuesday 2 December 2014 from 5.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m. in our Aungier Street campus building. Open Evenings provide prospective students with the opportunity to discuss courses that may be of interest to them both personally and professionally.
