Why Do People Return To Education?

According to Henry Merrill, an associate professor emeritus at Indiana University and president of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, there are four main reasons why adults wish to return to education:

  1. Learning for it's own sake
  2. To form social relationships
  3. Improve job skills
  4. Switch careers

For the majority of people in Ireland who are considering returning to education, the main reasons for doing so appear to be enhancing career prospects and/or changing career direction. Given that Ireland currently has an unemployment rate of approximately 14%, it means that competition for jobs is becoming extremely competitive and one can't soley rely on experience or education alone. In fact, employers are seeking more rounded individuals who have a good combination of both practical experience, and the relevant educational qualifications to support their experience.

DBS offers a wide range of Evening Degree programmes to enable our students to stand out from the crowd and put them in a position to enhance their personal and professional futures. There are programmes available in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Digital Media, Management, Business with Psychology, Information Systems,  Law, Psychology, Social Science, Film, Literature & Drama, Counselling & Psychotherapy, and many more. A full list of programme availability for this September can be viewed on our website.

We are currently accepting applications for all programmes due to commence in September and an initial application can be made online today.
